Mt.Hector

We skied Mt.Hector today and a few things to note. On the way up, the waterfall section still had some snow bridging, but it won't be there for much longer...maybe not even by tomorrow. The sketchiness of the bridging made for slow ascent through the waterfall. Around 2200m is when the re-freeze crust started to thicken and provide more consistent support. From here up the slopes got much firmer and ski crampons were a huge asset...for the lucky one in our group that had them. The glacier has good coverage (never found less than 250 cm) and snow was well consolidated and supportive. We could see a few sagging snow bridges . Upper slopes of the glacier are wind and heat affected, so they are slick but solid and boot backing made for faster travel than skins. When we toped out at 11am air temp was -1 deg C. Ski down started icy at the top, but soon became very enjoyable with the warming temperatures at lower elevations. Also of note, Little Hector still has a huge cornice threatening the slopes below it.
