Quick Observation
Amazing riding and hot sunny day on video peak. There is about 20cm to 25cm of cold storm snow sitting on a 20cm consolidated slab layer. We consistently had planar results on this layer from the bottom of the slope to about half way up the face from multiple hand shear tests. I would say moderate force and suspected surface hoar. The snow felt more consolidated as we were going up but also thinner. However, there were no signs of instability on this layer during our approach. We later chatted with 2 different groups who each found different things digging snow pits pretty close to each other at the bottom of the slope. From no evidence of SH to moderate sudden planar results down 75cm on CT tests. Anything steeper oriented towards the sun was already developing a 2cm sun crust by noon.
Avalanche Information
No signs of natural avalanches and very little pin wheeling on solar aspects. We did see the aftermath of the skier triggered avalanche on Ursus minor and the powder cloud in Hospital bowl.
