It's still a pretty minimal snowpack in the Crowsnest area these days, with south to west slopes scoured down to bare rock or boasting a total snowpack height of around 30cm. North and east aspects have up to 120cm of snow; the key characteristics being fresh wind slabs the formed with the strong southerly winds today and the notorious persistent weak layer from back in November near the base of the snowpack which has the potential to create very large avalanches if triggered in the right place. We saw no fresh avalanches out there today, just some old fracture lines estimated to be about a week old.
