Mt. Baldy's south side.

Only got up to about 11,300, winds were too brutal, so laps down from there. Hair-trigger sensitivity in the storm snow, but no naturals seen with limited visibitly. We did get a couple decent looks into the Slate River gorge. Mid afternoon I measured 26" of storm snow at Valley Bottom (9,600'), so a good bit more snow fell up high. Intense blowing snow in the afternoon hours. We encountered dense drifts up to 5 feet deep. Snow went from fluffy to very "upside down" as the winds stifferend the upper snowpack even in mostly wind-sheltered areas. We triggered a couple small slides in the storm snow on due west that broke on top of the crust near the ground. We encountered cracking anywhere we found steeper features with or without faceted old snow beneath so you can expect dangerous conditions on steep slopes facing any direction in this area on Sunday.
