Quick report
Starting from the Pinkham parking lot at 6:30 I had one red flag in my head to start the tour, 6” of new snow. Another red flag on my mind was visibility. I arrived at the base of Hillmans Highway at roughly 7:30. There were no other skiers or tracks. Visibility was good as I could see to the Y. I transitioned in the krumholtz out a potential avalanche path. While booting up I dug 5 hand pits. I observed well bonded older slabs and the even older darker sun / rain crust. While digging the hand pits I noted the new snow was not bonded well and triggered easily. I booted up to midway in the lookers right of the Y. 8:00 was my turn around time in order to be home by 9:00. Knowing I may trigger the new snow I made 2-3 turns and ducked into the Krumholtz. The new snow sluffed easily gaining in volume to its stopping point 3/4 of the way down the X-mass tree. There were no other skiers in Hillmans. I skied my line to the sides of the sluff path. The new snow skied great and created manageable sluff for me. Had there been a skier in the slide path below me they may have had a rough go but not have been fully burred. Had there been a skier above me I would most likely have bailed on my plans or posted up well out of the slide path.
