Quick report
Traveled from Hermit Lake to Connection Cache via the Tuckerman Ravine Trail around 11AM. Skinning was easy & ski penetration varied from 1cm to 5cm. Hand shears failed on two layers ~6cm down and ~15cm down on an east facing slope at 4250 ft. Snow throughout hand shears was 1F. Moderate winds from the West. 21 F. OBS skies. About 50 ft below Connection Cache we noticed things were starting to look a bit different. Trees were missing branches on the uphill side and a couple of larger trees had been snapped in half. We did not venture far from the cache. Avalanche debris surrounding the cache was >240cm and poured into Little Headwall. Visibility was poor. From what we were able to see it looked like Left Gully had slid, along with Chute and the entire headwall over to Sluice. We could see the old icy surface in some areas near the lip. Right Gully and Lobster Claw did not seem to slide. Snow in the run outs looked soft & pillowy.
Avalanche
Avalanche debris observed in the bottom of Left Gully, Chute, Headwall, and Lip on NE-SE aspects. Based on previous observations these avalanches occurred within the last 24 hours. SS-NS-R4-D3-U.
