Started up chute and made the choice to turn back half way up just past the choke after seeing concerning handsheer tests followed by CT13 for about a 6” 1f windslab, broke on the bed surface. Did a pretty shanty ECT and had full propagation on the same bed surface at an ECT 14. Again, this was a pretty shanty ECT but wanted an idea on propagation. Totally wall to wall wind slab. Was not okay booting up it. Decided to head up right instead and cut over on top to look more. Did two more obs above the headwall, one higher up and one about 100’ lower to see the snow change. There was a lot more snow higher with a 2+ foot windslab while there was about an 8” windslab from the pit 100’ lower. Both broke clean at CT14 and CT13 respectively. Didnt do ECTs as the snow was more or less the same as half way up chute so expected the same results. We had two teams of three separated to start with eyes on eachother while skiing. We were under no allusion that it was fully safe but it was a risk we were all comfortable with given our team and the current situation. We skied Sluice, Lip, Headwall, and Chute and had no avalanche problems. The snow felt very different to ski than to boot, and to some extend felt very safe skiing. Observed no cracks or any isolated pockets just clear large sections of windslab.
