Quick report
Conditions in Shoestring Gully (Mt. Webster, Crawford Notch State Park) were in line with the avalanche forecast. Old debris from at least one avalanche cycle was visible low in the gully. Higher up, old debris and rollerballs from very small avalanches could be seen. At the top of the gully around 3,000’, the snow depth increased markedly. Spindrift was also flowing down the gully during wind gusts. 12 to 24 inches of 4-finger-hard snow laid over the ice, but hand-shear tests did not show a clear slab or weak layer. Overall, the Webster gullies need more snow before they come into condition for ski descents, in my opinion.
