Quick report
Toured up to the weather station, down into Glacier Gulch, and up to 9000' on Teewinot's south shoulder. We covered NE, E, and SE aspects between 7000 and 9500'. A wide variety of surface conditions are out there, and very few of them are good for skiing. Exposed areas have a wind skin/crust; southerlies have a sun crust and near-surface facets exist in most places - up to 12" observed in some areas. Two crusts were observed in the top 10 inches on SE aspect around 8000' with faceting in between. Sheltered areas still hold some soft snow, mostly in the form of recycled powder. If we had a lot of snow forecasted to fall on these surfaces, I would be concerned. Unfortunately, it looks dry through the end of the month. The cold temperatures have helped preserve some good snow through the dry weather, but this next week of dry weather looks a little warmer and southerlies will get cooked and develop thicker crusts.
