Quick report
Off Duty: Southwest winds were howling all day, very gusty and erratic. 3" of new snow in the morning with periods of heavy snowfall (S1-S2). Striated layers in 24 hour new snow with density changes and graupel. There was heavy wind transport, so it was hard to tell how much snow accumulated based on field observations (8" of new snow at Surprise Meadows seemed appropriate). Leeward slopes were being actively wind loaded.
We ran into some homies who were digging a snowpit at 9700' E aspect (Shout out to them!) HS: 215cm ECTX (no propagation) The 1/31 weak layer was buried 85cm at this location. The overlying slab was firm and dense (4F-1F). The midstorm density breaks from last weeks storms did not showed unstable results. Propbed the wind loaded slope adjacent to the pit and found the weak layer buried between 85-100cm with total snow depths of 240-275cm.
