The snowpack has an old, mature springpack look, and the snow coverage looks like mid-May.  Yet wet avalanches involving the entire snowpack remain easy to trigger and continue to run naturally, particularly in terrain that held a drier snowpack up until last week: east, west, and even some north.  In areas where the snowpack is thinner, it is unsupportive and easy to trigger full-depth wet loose avalanches.  In areas with a thicker snowpack, it is often supportive, but we triggered several large collapses.  Pick your poison, or just don't bother right now; the ski quality is terrible: slow, sticky, and trapdoor.    

We experienced two large collapses that radiated ~30', and several smaller collapses with localized cracking, highlighting wet slab instabilities. These were on E and NE aspects NTL.

Another hot day with thin partly cloudy skies.

Snowpack

Wet loose avalanches were more stubborn on south facing terrain where the snowpack has matured through more melt-freeze cycles.  They remain easy to trigger in steep terrain on east facing aspects, and often gouge to the ground in shallower areas.  The thin 2/25 rain crust remains intact on some northerly slopes with wet snow above and moist snow below.  The 2/25 rain crust appears to be melting away on other northerly slopes now.

We observed one gouging wet loose run naturally around noon, one larger wet slab run a couple hours later, and we triggered a handful of gouging wet loose avalanches, almost all on east-facing terrain near treeline. Looking around, we spotted numerous other wet avalanches that likely ran today or yesterday.
