Avalanche: Banana Days

We skied several Banana chutes with relatively minor sluffs: basically the top storm snow sheared off and ran, but not overly fast. We ski cut each one, let the sluff run, then skied much better snow than we'd expected. 9-12" of new snow.

On our exit, we skied down and instead of cutting toward CSR/Crystal, we opted to skew skier's right and drop. We elected not to ski the steeper slope (wise) and proceeded skier's right to a slope that was perhaps a touch steeper than 35°. I cut across it toward an island of safety, expecting the same sluff as we'd seen in the chutes. Looking back, I saw the "sluff" thundering down until it dissolved into the flats below. It was a bit shocking how fast it moved. It never stepped down to take more snow. It was likely never more than two feet deep. But it would have given me seriously unpleasant spin cycle through trees.

I think we managed the risk well. I bring it up because it was surprising how fast and hard it ran, especially after skiing other terrain that should've been more problematic. Perhaps this broke harder because it was wider/more open? Unclear.
