The snowpack is adjusting to the added load of new snow after a prolonged dry spell. The faceting that occurred during this dry spell is on full display as extensive whoomphing was heard and a pit resulted in an ECTP12, failing on the other of faceted snow that looks more and more like it could be a PWL to keep an eye on through the early part of our season. Time is needed for healing. Experienced widespread whoomphing on NE-E aspect above 8000’. Dug a pit on NE aspect near top of Edelweiss (25 deg, 8900’) and got an ECTP12 failing on extensively faceted layer of snow from the early-mid November dry spell. The cracking was isolated to the top 6” of storm snow, and seemed to be reflective of the snow density change/wind effect overnight.
