Snowpack

Surface crust was dense below ~1200 feet.  It became more brittle as we climbed and open areas out of the trees, the brittle crust had faceted into recycled powder.Observed 3-6mm surface hoar

Facets were found above and below most of the crusts within the top couple feet of the snowpack. Most reactive was down 37 cm on a mix of 2-4mm decomposing/fragmented particles and 2mm faceted crystals- CT17, ECT21, and PST Arr 30/100

Found hollow windslabs on S, SE terrain in open areas above 1500 feet. Also saw visual clues of previous wind effect. Soft faceted surface snow is available for wind transport.
