- Heavy Snowfall, Wind Loading, Poor Snowpack Structure
Travels today took me to Shaffer Fork of AF.
Wind and snow began at 11a, and wind and snowfall remained moderate throughout the day.
I dug on W at 9200 and 8600. ECTX in both pits. Weaker grains from below Wednesday's snow revealed themselves during shovel shears, however. There's also no shortage of weak November facets lower in the snowpack.
The 8600 pit was sheltered, and snow depths totaled 145cm, 40cm greater than 9200, but with similar structure. Probe visible in 8600pit.
