It was up to Anderson Ridge for us today on this beautiful cold clear day. We found that below treeline, the 20-30 cm of most recent storm snow is well-preserved. As we got up into the treeline the effects of the wind became more evident. With our clear skies, we could see that there were several wind slab avalanches that appeared to be 12-24 hours old in surrounding extreme terrain. As you get into the alpine, there is significantly more wind effect that is stripping the snow in some areas and creating stiff wind slabs in the lee. We avoided the wind loaded convex rolls on our ski down, and found the skiing significantly improved once you got back into the trees.
