Today we rode into Kakwa. We had time for a short ride up to the weather station and the Babet Lake area to see if we could get any observations. There was up to 40 cm of snow over the Feb 7th crust, with moderate snowfall continuing through the day. Winds were strong from the southwest, transporting new snow and forming fresh wind slabs at treeline and alpine elevations. We observed one size 2 wind slab avalanche on a north aspect out of an alpine feature above Babet Lake that released within the previous 24 hours.
