Surprise Slab

Yukon

Out in the Whitepass with RCMP and CO’s from around the Yukon doing their AST1. Not much travel accomplished as visibility was poor. We found this size 2 avalanche on a north aspect just to the east of Big Kahuna. Estimated to be fresh..within past 24hrs. The adjacent slopes were hammered with snowmobile tracks so it was interesting to see this slab pop out of a sheltered concave feature. The failure depth and plane line up with results in two nearby pits we dug which both had failures on an SH layer approx 20-30cms down.
