Farm Pass Conditions

Josh Mcmurray, Sunday 7th January, 2024 10:30PM
Spent the last 4 days skiing in and around farm pass. We travelled between 1650-2100m in BTL, and TL and all aspects. At 1830m, farm pass received 51cm of low density HST since January 4th. At 2100m the HS now sits between 140-165. The storm snow overlies a sun crust predominantly on southerly aspects buried around 40-50cm deep. Snow profile SW Asp, TL, HS 160cm Results ECTX CTM 13 down 45 (RP) CTM 11 down 45 (RP) Mostly obscured visibility made for limited observations in the alpine. Ski quality was excellent but travel conditions were difficult due to a ski pen of 35-45cm. On Jan 7th the storm snow had settled and made for the best skiing of the trip. On Jan 5th we observed numerous dry loose sz 0.5-1 but could not produce any slabs from ski cutting on convex test slopes. On Jan 6th with another 18cm overnight we were able to produce many soft slabs from ski cuts on convex features. These slabs were between 30-40cm thick. The following day, Jan 7th, the storm snow seemed to have consolidated and the weak layer we found the previous day could not be triggered through ski cutting.
