Bonney Moraines

jacobhtaranto, Wednesday 17th January, 2024 7:10PM
We skied the Bonney Moraines down into the valley. The Elephants trunk was in reasonably good condition! After snow overnight and continuing through the day approx S1, cold Northerly aspects provided fantastic skiing up high. Multiple failures of storm and wind surface skids were observed sitting on the sugary surface layer formed during the cold snap. They are only 5-10cm thick max but are running as heavy sluffs entraining a reasonable amount of adjacent snow. One of note was a ski cut descending on a NNW aspect at TL in a gulley feature pictured. All in all a fantastic day out but give this snow time to settle and bond.
