This winter keeps on giving

We lapped Paddy shoulder from 1380m to valley bottom. Snow was very lightly touched by the wind to make buttery delicious skiing on open slopes. There was well preserved powder within the trees to upper treeline. The snow was hard and wind effected at the transition to alpine terrain. No signs of instability were found, other than minor cracking in the upper 4cm of wind affected snow at treeline. Quick profile at 1230m NNE aspect had 45cm of fist to 4 finger snow sitting on the early December melt freeze layer. The upper melt freeze layer was facetted (4 finger), and a failure propagated across the entire column on this layer during an extended column test (see profile photo). Facetting was found the day before in this layer at Log Cabin as well, but it was notably more facetted at Paddy in this profile with a shallower snowpack (HS 131).
No signs of buried surface hoar and we did ski some open areas within the trees. No recent avalanche activity observed. It was a great day to be out with light wind, cool temps, no precip, and great snow to land (or not land) a backflip in!
