The JDL is variable across the terrain. If it produced unstable test results, it was mainly on N/E aspects at middle to lower elevations. The bigger problem would be a lingering unstable pocket of wind-drifted snow in exposed terrain. 

Instability was confied to wind loaded slopes or steep solars (SW-SE) that moistened up.

Snowpack

The JDL continues to show variability in every location I dug. 

On SW-W aspects the JDL is a thick crust with little concern for avalanches to fail on or below the crust.

On E/NE aspects below 5500 ft I found the JDL crust to be thinner and more likely to produce unstable test results, but still variable.

In a test pit @ 5300 ft, E aspect, I found the JDL resting under 50 cm of snow. In this location, I received a CT17, SC, 50 cm down on JDL facets below the crust. PST 45/100 end and no results with an ECT. 

Higher up on a E aspect @ 6000 ft in a slightly wind loaded location, I found the JDL nearly a meter deep. The snow above and below the crust didn't appear that weak anymore. Outside of a few stubborn test results failing in the recent snow, the JDL produced unremarkable test results.
