Quick report
Observed wind loading on the around 5,200’ on the approach to Holy Diver with blowing snow and signs of shallowly-buried wind slabs. Saw another group pop a very small wind slab to skier’s left side during the descent of Holy Diver. New snow during the day was more constant than expected. It was bright but we never had any true sun breaks.
Avalanche
While skiing a treed area off the east ridge of Roosevelt around 1:45pm, one member of our party triggered a storm slab which broke 12 inches deep, 30 feet wide, and ran for 300 feet or so. The slide entrained a good amount of snow but didn’t appear to step down beyond the newest snow. Others in our group also triggered a number of small dry loose sluffs on the same descent.
