Took advantage of a the beautiful blue sky day to go poke around in the upper ramparts of Tunnel Cr in search of soft solar affected snow. While my findings were far from consistent, I did discover that planar, open, southerly slopes steeper than 25 degrees and without proximity to the forest were holding rather nice corn skiing (see photo). Lower angle southerlies in this zone with less direct sun exposure were still transitional with a breakable crust. This zone was exempt from impact of a light wind which on more easterly aspects was keeping the snow surface quite cold. HS at 5030' 150cm on S/SW aspect high in Tunnel Creek, air temp in the shade at this location at high noon was 34.1F. I did plenty of traversing on southerly slopes in search of decent turns and did not trigger nor observe any wet loose activity. On polar aspects during my approach to Tunnel Creek I observed widespread surface hour/surface faceting, with some impressively large grains in select locations. Travel under canopy was, to put it lightly, unenjoyable.
