Quick report
A beautiful day out in the alp valley!
Weather
- Cloud Cover
- broken
Day started with altocumulus and stratiform to the E. No clouds directly overhead and was warm, no wind. Around 1100 cumulus started to appear and obscure the sun here and there with moments of strong March sun. 1200 winds picked up from the SW-W and were around 20mph around ridge lines. Some snow transport but nothing major.
Snowpack
No sign of surface hoar with the overnight high sky. N side of chair was textured and found pockets of wind slab. These were not reactive and cracking was isolated to the ski, no shooting cracks on test slopes. It seems that the new snow is starting to settle and bond better to the 3/25 crust. We did find that there was a lot of depositing at the bottom of steep rollovers/cliffs and these looked to be the most suitable for any possibility of setting of a wind slab. We steered clear of these areas. Small signs of rollerballs on steep terrain down chair peak basin by 1300.
