Snowpack
We went to Deep Creek to look for some soft snow in wind protected below treeline areas. Snow coverage in this area is pretty thin below 7000' with many obstacles present. At lower elevations, skining is challenging with 3 to 4'' of soft faceted snow on top of a firm rain crust. Above 7400', 6'' of soft near surface facets exist on the snow surface providing good travel conditions. Multiple crusts exist in the upper snowpack. Snowpack tests on these crusts did not show current weakness at this point. On solar aspects, 4'' of wet transitional snow existed on most slopes. True South aspects had better melt freeze conditions, but little snow existed for use at this elevation and location.
