Quick report
Warm temps, moderate winds with some strong gusts, and broken clouds in Deep Creek ahead of tonight’s storm. The recent storm snow was getting heavier at lower elevations and on solar slopes, but higher elevation north facing slopes still held medium density winter snow. Ski pen was generally boot top, boot pen was thigh deep. Other than the small wind slab avalanche that appeared to have failed yesterday or this morning, we did not see any signs of instability.
Avalanche
Saw remnants of a small (D1-) wind slab avalanche just below the summit ridge on a north aspect @7600’. Crown was about a foot and it broke about 20’ x 20’. It appeared to be skier triggered (tracks entering and exiting the slide path), and looked to have failed yesterday or this morning, as the tracks and bed surface had wind transported snow on them.
