Snowpack

A shallow snowpack exists on many shaded slopes above 7500' in this area.  Southerly aspects have experienced melting with dirt, rocks, and mud in these areas with E and W aspects having more snow coverage with less melt occuring.  Near and above 8000', some of these shaded aspects have up to 8'' of snow from the previous couple storms this winter.  The snow in these areas is mostly made up of crusts and weak faceted snow.   The faceting process is expected to continue with the low sun angles this time of year.
