Cold! Thanks to whoever started a fire at the warming hut this morning. Increasing clouds through the day. Minimal winds.
Snowpack
We were happy with what we saw today. Our riding took us from the warming hut up to the terrain above lake Dinah. This was our first Seeley day this season but overall once we got above lake Elsina we found a generally stable, upright snowpack without obvious weak layers. We did see some fresh avalanches within the new snow from last weekend, failing naturally on convexities, but these were small D1s, betwen 3-5 inches deep.
The caveat to this obervation is that it is our first Seeley day. We dug 3 pits targetting areas where we thought we could find buried surface hoar and near surface facets and did not find layers of concern. That being said, it was 3 pits in a big zone. I suspect areas still exist, especially on rocky convex rollovers where larger avalanches are possible to trigger.
