Overscast with obscured vis all day. S-1 snowfall rates with another 2-3 inches falling during the field day. Active transport of new snow along ridgelines.
Snowpack
Dug two full depth snowpits on opposite aspects and terrain.
South aspect pit in sheltered terrain had an overall stronger structure with rounding facets and although there were some facets above the buried melt-freeze crust, these were unreactive in tests and rounding. In this area, there was 4 inches of new snow at the surface unnafected by the wind and without a storm slab.
On the northeast aspect ridgline pit, the facets around the melt-freeze crust were more developed and reactive in snowpit tests. This area had 6-8 inches of wind slab at the surface that was cracking around skis while approaching the pit area.
