Saddle Mtn cirque

The primary goal today was to look at an avalanche first observed in an observation a few days ago. It was a 3-foot average crown depth x 100' wide hard slab failing on buried surface hoar in an area usually wind-affected and where I did not expect surface hoar to be the culprit. It shows how calm the wind was at the start of the first January storm, preserving the surface hoar layer.

While exiting the field day, we observed a very fresh hard slab avalanche with ski tracks into the crown in Moose Creek. See attached avalanche for more information.
