Went to check out the early season conditions on Forum Ridge today. Some good skiing was found however many hazards exist. Below 1800m blowdown makes travel very difficult. There is 75cm-150cm of snow in the alpine and at treeline. A soft reverse-loaded surface slab exists but was difficult to trigger with cold temps. An October crust was found near the ground in isolated locations. The snowpack above is settling well and seems to be bonding to the crust. Other areas of the park still look too thin for skiing.
