Started up Beaver Creek at noon to let the trail soften a bit. Shaded temperature was hitting 10°C in the afternoon. Spring conditions have come in like a lion. (pic 1.) Lots of loose wet slides along the backside of the range releasing from heating rocks. (pic 2. background) Cornices are large, menacing, and still waiting to fall onto the slopes beneath. One small chunk (20'x4') fell off a much larger cornice without activating the slope beneath. Lots of potential for larger slides as the heat & sun primes cornices and slopes to release.
Snow conditions were: Heavy, Wet. Weather conditions were: Sunny, Warm. We rode: Alpine slopes, Dense trees, Mellow slopes, Open trees. Riding quality was ok.
Avalache Conditions: Rapid temperature rise to near zero degrees or wet surface snow.
