Jack’s Peak

R Newcombe

20cm at gate. 50cm at dam. 2.5m at 1000m. Snow was rock hard in the morning with zero boot or ski penetration. Crampons were a must. This was the case for all terrain except in the alpine above 1400m where instead there was a 3cm crust on top of 15cm light fluffy powder. Ski conditions not good, views awesome.

Snow conditions were: Crusty, Hard, Wind affected. Weather conditions were: Windy, Sunny. We rode: Alpine slopes, Mellow slopes. We avoided: Steep slopes. Riding quality was terrible.

Snowpack

Snow was very firm. Nothing was moving. Signs of small wet slides, pin wheels and tree bombing from earlier in the week.
