Big Chief Ridge

A pleasant, cool day. Minimal hazard or current snowpack concerns.
The goal was to get profiles as high in the terrain as possible during a morning tour and track the 2/13 interface and crusts in the upper snowpack. The snow in the upper snowpack is impressively weak, and facets are well-developed, especially at the 2/13 interface and adjacent to the 2/8, 2/7 crust and other melt-form layers in the top 70cm.

Ski cuts on 40-degree northerly slopes could barely begin to initiate the top ~15cm of uncohesive, dry snow. I couldn't get it to move more than a couple of feet, and it wouldn't entrain snow nor become an avalanche.
