Quick report

I checked out the sunny slopes on the south bowl of Tallac today. Approaching via the summer trailhead involved about 2 miles of walking before reaching fairly consistent snow coverage. Once reaching consistent snow coverage, the height of snow is minimal at lower elevations on this generally sunny part of the mountain and plenty of obstacles protrude from the snow. The snow texture is rough in many areas higher in the bowl. Some surface melting began shortly after the sun hit the slopes and by 9:30am there was about an inch wet snow on SE aspects. There is not currently snow coverage on the ridge connecting the top of south bowl to the summit. Descending just after 10am the surface snow was softening and skied well. I did not observe any signs of instability during my tour.
