Skiing South aspect Mt Rose, sand chutes I think they’re called. SW Wind gusting 25-40 mph Mostly sunny, warm when moving, cold when paused. 8” touchy wind slab layer observed skin up D1 slide triggered at +/- 9k on SW facing slope, gulley feature on descent. 1’-2’ crown, 100-150’ wide, travelled 300’ Skiied into a rollover on the wind loaded side of gulley, triggered a wind slab, and skiied out of avi path. No burials or injuries. The obvious reasons it slid, wind slab, SW facing (sunny & warming) with fresh snow deposit. Convex rollover. A hand pit on a north aspect revealed the same results, an unbonded weak layer about 10” thick. We adjusted our decent path to avoid getting “ Pigeon holed” into more consequential snowpack terrain.
