Quick report
Ascended Mount Ellinor via the Winter Route from the Upper Trailhead. Snow Depth at Upper TH was ~18cm and remained fairly constant until after the Summer/Winter Route junction and breaking out of the tree cover. At 4300' a crust was found 23cm below the surface with a total snow depth of 45cm. A snow pit was dug at the base of the chute (~4500'). A strong crust layer was found 35cm below the surface. This is the crust that supported us travelling without floatation. Picture and snow profile provided below. Wet loose activity was seen in the winter chute in the form of roller ball and pinwheels. These were seen to pick up snow down to the previously mentioned crust but did not fan out or entrain a significant amount of surrounding snow. There were sections of wind drifted snow that varied in depth from 15cm to 75cm. Another snow pit was dug in the basin above the chute. Strong crusts were found ~40cm below the surface (believe to be 2/11) and ~80cm below the surface (believed to be the Early February Crust). Picture and snow profile provided below.
