Quick report
After looking at the layers we conducted an ECT at 7570' on an eastern aspect, slope angle 21, and got ECTP 25 down 58 cm's on the 4-6mm Surface Hoar. This layer is sandwiched between two slabs of 1F rounds. Surprisingly we saw no movement on the very large 1.6cm buried Surface Hoar down 83 cm's. This layering may be very specific to the location we were at, but it is worth noting if you are venturing into the northern end of the park.
Snowpack
Underfoot the snowpack felt pretty good, then we took a closer look at what was actually under our feet. The average depth of snow (HS) at 7600' was 110 cm's. We found two layers of well preserved buried Surface Hoar. One layer was 58 cm's down and ranged from 4-6mm in size, and the second layer was 83 cm's down and we found preserved Surface Hoar that ranged from 8-16mm (1.6cm) in size!! All of which was sitting on 2-4mm Depth Hoar at the ground.
