Central Flathead Range

-Trace of crusty snow at 4200', 3-4" of recent snow (11/15 storm) on crust at 5000'. -Between 6000-7000' recent snow from Wednesday totaled 8-12" and was resting on a breakable crust with facets underneath. Snow depths below the crust were about 5-10" on the slopes we were on. Snow depths on shaded, leeward aspects were deeper, 2 or more feet. - From 7000-8700' the terrain we travelled on was heavily rimed and generally wind scoured down to a sometimes supportable, but mostly breakable crust. Total snow depths were highly variable, ranging from only a few inches to 4+ feet deep in pockets that were loaded with wind slab. -No signs of instability save for a few afternoon rollerballs from the rocks on southerly slopes below 6500' and a couple tiny slabs (2-3' wide by 10" thick) failing with ski cuts on top of the crust. -Observed a few old crowns (D1.5) on steep, unsupported northerly slopes between 6500-7500'. These crowns were about 10" thick and likely failed during the storm on Wednesday. -Slopes on solar aspects at 6500' and below in full sun were cooked during the day and then crusting over during our exit in the evening.
