Quick report
- Collapsing
- specific
Kept our tour simple and straightforward today skiing low angle, sheltered terrain free of N/E winds and favoring sunny aspects. •S/W aspects offered reprieve from the latest round of N/E Arctic winds and harbored sheltered, low density powder •The abundant sunshine had no effect on surface snow •Light N/E winds have scoured and crossloaded wind-prone terrain along the Continental divide •Consistent with this region, snowpack is thin with substantial faceting and depth hoar occurring; a weakening snowpack •Excellent views of nearby alpine terrain proved no recent avalanche activity. •We experienced collapsing/whumpfing on multiple occasions/aspects/elevations but without a cohesive slab atop the 'January junk show', there was no cracking associated.
