Quick report
Goal was to climb Lower WCR to verify still reasonable conditions for me and scope traverse to Upper WCR for possible dual effort today. Late timing sabotaged me, but today saw team of three successfully ski both lightly-runneled Upper and highly exposed, uneven but soft Lower 1pm. Skinning can still start 400’ from TH, but now more/longer meltout sections until around 750’ (adjacent to hiker’s trail). Above Palmer, only a couple spots to briefly remove skis with route directly above top of Palmer, but not always obvious. Lots of debris on track to IllumSad & Lower WCR. Forgot to transition prior to OH exposure, but found decent spot directly below Crater Rock notch fall line. Climb was steep, but reasonable at my early evening time, but shortly after measuring a 57deg spot of my intended relatively smooth but narrow ski line, noted a surprisingly firm ice patch on it around 10.2K. Given lateness of hour, figured wise to bail so down climbed 50’ to fairly reasonable spot to transition and skied out.
