Quick report
I triggered a D1 windslab avalanche above me and was carried for 20ft. The avalanche propagated 100ft up and across the steep section of the slope I was on. I believe this was a windslab avalanche. The crown was about 16 inches where I was and tapered to ~6 inches at the looker’s right of the crown. I was traversing around Colchuck pass in flat light and transitioning from a Southernly to Easterly aspect. Just as I was thinking “this is steeper than I thought” a crack appeared above me and the slope let go. I fell to me knees and rode the top of the avalanche. I had been on a hard, unbreakable crust for most of the day. Then I believe the crust became thinner on this shaded Easterly aspect. I think there was also less consolidated, windblown snow on this aspect.
