Quick report
Out digging pits with a Motorized Pro 1 course. There's a ripe recipe for avalanches right now unfortunately. The slab has firmed up significantly over the last week and the facets found beneath are very weak. Talking with the guides, they saw avalanches fail on slopes that don't typically. There's been a trend in local folks seeing that across all our forecast zones. Overall slab depths are small, around 30cm (1ft) below 9000' and 60cm (2 ft) above 9500'. Propagation and unstable test results in all snowpits. Around 4" of recent snow and no additional snowfall during the day with calm to minimal wind.
Snowpack
Dug two snowpits, to destinguish middle and upper elevations. Upper elevation slab is stronger and thicker, but propagating easier than middle elevation.
8600' SW aspect HS: 65cm ECTP13, CT11 SC down 30cm on 1-2mm facets (possibly fragmented surface hoar).
9600' NW aspect HS: 107cm ECTP10 down 42cm on well preserved surface hoar above a 17cm thick layer of 2-3mm dry facets.
