On Thursday (12/7) we experienced temps below freezing for the first time since Tuesday. Due to this long period of warm weather following almost 1" of rain added to the snowpack, things were soft and saturated. Luckily we picked up a little over 5" throughout the day at 5,600' to help replenish some of the snow we lost. Dug a pit on a N/NE aspect and found that even after lots of change in weather, the SH that's located roughly 30cm down was still in tact and propagated with moderate force. This PWL developed on Friday, December 24th and was preserved and buried by new snow on December 30th. This layer likely exists elsewhere in isolated, sheltered areas.
