Quick report
Everything we observed today matched Tanner's January 30 snowpack summary. We did encounter some thin wind slabs near treeline. They had very little to no reactivity. Snow surfaces are getting wet from the latest high-pressure warmth. I expect melt/freeze crusts to form on many aspects and elevations over the next two days.
Fun turns were had in the 11500' to 10000' range. If you find good turns, don't let your guard down. There is very hard ice just under the snow! I was cruising and having a great time, and conditions went from 15cm of soft snow over ice to about 1cm of snow over ice! I hit the ice hard, injuring my shoulder and breaking my goggles. It was difficult to recognize the changing conditions. Be careful!!!
Avalanche
It looked like a small (D1) avalanche occurred on the North slopes of Fremont, near 11500'. Hard to tell for sure from a distance. If this was evidence of a small avalanche, it likely occurred on January 24 or 25.
