Quick report
We skied from Tamarack TH to Duck Pass, Deer Pass, then descended the Red Cone skin track back to the TH. Weather - chilly with 5% cloud cover in the morning. Light S wind seemed to shift to the W at some points. The only snow transport we witnessed was surface facets being blown around on the N side of Duck Pass around 10650'. Snowpack - widespread surface facets on polar aspects, especially steep sheltered slopes. Facets were mixed with windboard and sastrugi of varying supportability and texture. We also found loose facets on an E-facing slope below Red Cone at 10200'. The S/W side of the Mammoth Crest is still largely holding snow, but depth is down to a few inches in some areas near the crest and there are large bare patches around 11200', S and SW aspects. We found exactly one slope with a lot of well-developed corn: directly S-facing from 10800'-11100', average 23 deg slope, but it had refrozen by the time we were on it at 2PM. No evidence of loose wet activity. Travel beta - open water exists between Skelton and Barney Lake. Duck Lake appeared entirely frozen but the outlet may hold some open water.
