It was a very nice day out. Winds were calm and the sky was clear. Temperatures in the shade were in the mid 20's. Sunny aspects were in the low 30's by the afternoon.
Snowpack
I dug a pit at 6,800ft on a NE aspect. The height of snow was around 51" (130cm). The upper 6"-8" was unconsolidated cold snow. Below this is a stout ice crust. I found some weak snow above and below this ice crust, but I did not get any alarming results in column tests. The mid snowpack is strong (rounded grains), and the lower snowpack consists of an old ice crust. While I did find some basal facets, it was not uniform and was 1F in hardness. I did not get any alarming results in any column tests (ECTX) at this specific location.
Throughout the terrain I did find some weak layers on the surface of the snow (very small near surface facets). With new snow incoming, I am planning on keeping track of how well the new snow bonds to this older snow.
While touring I observed some old avalanche debris and several old avalanche crowns. These are likley from the last rain event. Overall, I did not see any recent avalanches, nor did I experience any cracking or whumpfing.
