Amulet Peak (Northern Chugach)

We triggered a large and very scary avalanche on Amulet on Saturday. Unfortunately no quality photos as we were in a fog layer when it happened.

It started out about 15 inches deep at 7,200 ft and stepped down twice to 4' deep on glacier ice. It punched through a crevasse on its way down. It broke 50 feet above me and I was able to self-arrest, but it carried my partner 700'. The debris fanned out in the apron and she was only partially buried and was up walking around by the time I got down to her. There was still an area of debris that was 4 or 5 feet deep. 

She lost a ski, but luckily a heli ski operator rescued us. Her ski may have fallen in the crevasse; we actually dug up her hat and sunglasses while looking for the ski. We could still see the old tracks from the 4 groups that had been up there recently. Quite terrifying obviously. It was a gnarly ski down the 45 degree glacier ice bed surface to my partner, and of course a much gnarlier ride for her.
