Quick report
Touring conditions are certainly sporty in the pass. The skin from the road to the summit of Hatch Peak involved rocks and sliding on the either faceted or wind boarded skin track. The ski down sunny side started quite fun with edgeable wind board and ended with a more grabby counterpart ~4000'. Some softer snow was found by aiming for scalloped looking snow during the descent. While the surface slab remained variable the mid pack slab and depth hoar remained a constant throughout the slope and the group prioritised safe travel practices and traveled one at a time.
Snowpack
Investigated the snowpack near the avalanche likely releasing around 01/28 on far skiers right of sunny side Hatch Peak. Three separate pits were dug at 3700' on a SW aspect. The snowpack was shallow in all locations in the 65-75cm range. All pits had poor structure with a stout 1F slab overlying fist hard depth hoar 40cm↓. Test results were consistent and propagating (ECTP 17, ECTP 20, ECT23)
